In a year that has seen three major films [Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Kaabil] garner the best footfalls between January and February, all eyes are on Badrinath Ki Dulhania to make it big in the month of March. The film has practically everything going in its favor. Presence of a young popular lead pair [Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt], backing by a premium production house [Karan Johar], second in the franchise of a hit film [Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania – Shashank Khaitan], popular musical score [Tamma Tamma leading the show], impressive promo, young feel, family entertainment – the film has a lot to better.
Really, the film couldn’t have asked for a better platform and release. As a matter of fact, it is not just arriving solo, it doesn’t have much of a competition from past, present or future also, hence getting two good weeks wide open for it. While a good opening is on the cards and the weekend should be healthy too, the film has the stage set for itself to make merry if the content turns out to be as positive too as all the other factors that are going in its favor.
On a regular Friday, the film could well have taken a Rs. 13-14 crore opening. That said, this is examination times for students, and since kids form a major part of Varun’s target audience base, there would be some shortage of footfalls. That means the Day One is expected to open between Rs. 10-12 crore. Varun’s last release Dishoom had taken an opening day of Rs. 11.05 crore while Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya had seen Rs. 9 crore coming on Day One. In 2017, only three biggies [Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Kaabil] – all with senior actors in the lead – have seen a double digit opening. Now Badrinath Ki Dulhania is all set to be the fourth!
