Ameesha Patel Exposes Karan Johar’s Confrontation Over Bipasha Basu and Lara Dutta’s Comments on Her During “Koffee With Karan” at Vaada Premiere.

Ameesha Patel, known for her iconic role as Sakeena, is set to reprise her character this year in the highly anticipated sequel to the patriotic-romantic blockbuster, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, alongside Sunny Deol. Reflecting on her early days in the Bollywood industry, Ameesha opened up about a past conflict that escalated into a heated exchange when she made a comment about Bipasha Basu in the movie Jism. The situation intensified when Basu, along with Lara Dutta, appeared on the popular talk show Koffee With Karan and responded to Ameesha’s remarks. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha finally addresses this long-standing controversy that originated nearly two decades ago.

Ameesha Patel made a comment about the film Jism, stating that her grandmother would have disapproved of her involvement in such a project. Jism was an adult romantic drama that showcased Bipasha Basu in a bold avatar. During her appearance on Koffee With Karan, Basu responded to Patel’s comments by suggesting that Ameesha wouldn’t have been able to portray a role like that due to her petite stature. Basu emphasized that the film required a strong female personality to tackle such a daring character. On the other hand, Lara Dutta took a different stance, expressing that Ameesha had enough going on in her own life and didn’t have the time or inclination to think or talk about others.

During her interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha Patel recollected the events that initiated the controversy. She explained, “Lara and Bipasha appeared on Koffee with Karan, and apparently, they made some remarks that were not very complimentary towards me. I’m not sure why, as I had previously toured with Bipasha and we had a good rapport. I had also worked with Lara in the film Elaan, and I maintained a polite demeanor throughout the filming process.”

Ameesha further elaborated, “Arjun and I were scheduled to appear on Koffee with Karan a few days later to promote Vaada and discuss the show itself. However, the appearance didn’t materialize due to Arjun falling ill with typhoid. He was too unwell, and as a result, we couldn’t make it to the show.”

In the aftermath of the episode featuring Bipasha Basu and Lara Dutta on Koffee with Karan, Ameesha Patel shared how Karan Johar approached her at the premiere of her film Vaada (2005). She revealed, “Karan came up to me in his typical Karan style and said, ‘So Ameesha, you know that Bipasha and Lara came on the show and made certain remarks about you. What will be your response when you come on the show next week?’ I responded by saying, ‘Nothing. I have nothing to say. I will simply give a ‘no comment.’ Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I have none on this matter.’ Karan then remarked, ‘Oh, your typical Polish South Bombay manners.’ To which I replied, ‘Yes, because that’s who I am.'”

Ameesha Patel further clarified her previous comments, stating, “I still stand by what I said. I don’t believe that Basic Instinct is a bad film. In fact, I think Sharon Stone is a goddess, and her performance in the movie was exceptional. Similarly, I believe Jism was a fantastic film too. It had amazing music and remarkable performances. What I meant to convey was that I, personally, don’t feel comfortable portraying a character like Sharon Stone did. It takes courage to be bold and fearless on screen, and while I can be called sexy and hot in a physical sense, I am not entirely at ease with that level of boldness and skin exposure in my own performances.”
